The short answer
The right Lever alternative depends on which half of Lever you are replacing. For an ATS with a published price, Ashby starts at $300 a month for a company of up to 10 people and Manatal at $15 a user. For an agency, Loxo and Recruiterflow put an ATS and CRM in one seat at $149 a user. If the ATS and CRM work but nobody has time to fill the pipeline, HireAgent sources, screens and ranks candidates next to Lever from $299 a month.
Lever publishes no price, so the only Lever figure here is Vendr's buyer data, a $15,536 median a year read in its February 2026 update. Every other figure was read on that vendor's own page and is covered in our pricing pages.
Lever alternatives compared on price and what they replace
Lever sells one platform with the applicant tracking system and the recruiting CRM together, plus AI screening, interview summaries and quoted add-ons. That bundle is why people look for a replacement for two different reasons. Some find the quote too high at renewal and want something cheaper. Others like the system but see an empty top of the funnel and assume a different ATS will fix it. A different ATS rarely does.
Lever does not print a price, a plan list with dollar figures or a free trial. Vendr's median is $15,536 a year across 321 purchases, with deals from $6,720 to $51,540 and about 16% saved off the first quote. We trace those numbers on our Lever pricing page.
| Alternative | Best for | Price we could read | Published or quote only |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashby | Growth companies that want ATS, sourcing and analytics in one product | Foundations $300 a month at 1 to 10 employees up to $900 at 76 to 100, 10% off annual | Published to 100 employees, rest quoted |
| Manatal | Small agencies and in-house teams that want AI scoring cheaply | Professional $15, Enterprise $35, Enterprise Plus $55 per user a month, annual | Published |
| Greenhouse | Companies that want structured interview kits and scorecards | Core, Plus and Pro with no price, Vendr median $26,553 a year | Quote only |
| Loxo | Recruiting agencies that want ATS, CRM and sourcing in one seat | Core $149 per user a month on annual billing, Professional shown as book a demo | Core published |
| Recruiterflow | Agencies running outbound sequences and client work | $149 per user monthly, $119 on annual billing | Platform published, AI quoted |
| HireAgent | Any team that wants candidates sourced, screened and ranked for open roles | $299, $799 and $1,999 a month, or $1,794, $4,794 and $11,994 a year | Published |
Which Lever alternative fits which team
You want an ATS and CRM with a price you can read
Ashby is the closest like-for-like for an in-house team. It sells ATS, sourcing, CRM, scheduling and analytics as one product and prices by company size rather than by seat, so a 40-person company sits in a $500 a month band, or $5,400 a year with the annual discount. Our Ashby pricing page shows every band. Manatal is the budget end at $15 to $55 a user, with AI scoring on every plan, though it is lighter on structured interviewing than Lever.
You run a recruiting or staffing agency
Lever is built around an employer hiring for itself. An agency also needs client records, placements and billing. Loxo and Recruiterflow put an ATS and a CRM in one seat at a published price, $149 a user on Loxo Core and $119 to $149 on Recruiterflow. Our Loxo vs Recruiterflow breakdown goes through the differences, and the Loxo alternative page covers the case against Loxo.
You want a heavier interview process
If the reason to move is scorecards, interview kits and an audit trail across several teams, Greenhouse is the usual answer and it is a quote too. Our Greenhouse pricing page shows what Vendr reports. Expect a higher median, $26,553 against Lever's $15,536, for more process.
The ATS is fine, but the pipeline is thin
This is the case most Lever alternative searches miss. Lever's CRM stores and nurtures candidates. It does not go out and find them, read two hundred profiles against your criteria, or write the first message. If a recruiter spends the week searching and screening, a cheaper ATS saves the license and none of the time.
HireAgent takes that work. You describe the role and the criteria, it sources candidates, scores each against what you asked for with the evidence attached, drafts the approach and books interviews with people who reply. It connects to the ATS you already run, so approved candidates land in your pipeline. Plans start at $299 a month for one team, $4,794 a year for three seats and ten open roles, and there is no implementation fee.
What a Lever replacement costs against the Vendr median
Take a company with 10 open roles and three recruiters. At Vendr's low end Lever is about $6,720 a year before add-ons. Ashby for a 40-person company is $5,400 a year at the annual rate. Manatal Enterprise for three users is $1,260 a year. HireAgent Growth is $4,794 a year and sits next to whichever ATS you keep.
At 40 open roles and ten recruiters the Vendr median is $15,536, Manatal Enterprise for ten users is $4,200, and HireAgent Scale is $11,994 a year with SSO. The point is not that one number is smaller. The ATS and the agent do different jobs. A team that needs both should price both, and a team that needs one should be clear which job it is paying for.
Questions to ask before you switch
Moving off an ATS is a project. Ask whether your candidate history and CRM tags export in full, how long migration takes and who does it, and what the new vendor charges. Ask whether your pipeline stages and interview templates carry over or must be rebuilt. If you screen with AI, ask whether the vendor has the bias audit documentation New York City Local Law 144 requires; our guide to AI hiring laws and compliance covers the obligations.
Interview logistics are the other place hours leak. If scheduling is what eats the week rather than sourcing, a meeting scheduler with shareable booking pages fixes that cheaply, and HireAgent can also book interviews with candidates who reply.
Lever alternatives questions, answered
What are the main Lever competitors?
For in-house hiring the closest are Ashby, Greenhouse and Workable. For agencies they are Loxo, Recruiterflow and Bullhorn. Manatal competes on price. None of them sources and ranks candidates for you the way an AI recruiting agent does, which is why many teams run an agent beside the ATS.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Lever?
Yes. Manatal Professional is $15 a user a month and Ashby Foundations starts at $300 a month for a company up to 10 people. Lever's Vendr median is $15,536 a year, so both are lower for a small team, though neither matches Lever's bundle of ATS, CRM and AI screening one for one.
Does Lever publish its pricing?
No. Its pricing page describes one core platform and says pricing is available on request, read on 1 November 2026. The $15,536 median comes from Vendr's buyer purchase data, last updated in February 2026.
Can I use HireAgent with Lever?
Yes. HireAgent has a Lever integration, so candidates you approve are pushed into your Lever pipeline. You keep Lever as the system of record and add sourcing, screening and ranking on top of it.
What is the best Lever alternative for a small team?
For a small in-house team that wants a published price, Ashby or Manatal. For a team whose real bottleneck is finding and screening candidates, an AI recruiting agent that works with the ATS you already have is usually the better spend than a new ATS.
See HireAgent source and shortlist your candidates
Describe a role and HireAgent sources candidates, screens them against your criteria, and returns a match-scored shortlist with evidence, then drafts outreach and schedules interviews. The agent does the legwork, you make the hire.
